2009 - Celebrating with Word and Song: Liturgy and music workshops for the Diocese of North Carolina

The Liturgical Commission and the School of Minsitry have joined hands in planning for a series of three workshops on liturgy and music.  The first has already occurred in March at St. Paul's, Winston-Salem.

June 6 - Contemporary worship & liturgical planning, at Christ Church in Charlotte

Workshop details: Liturgical Planning: Music That Supports Worship
** Church musicians are challenged to find music that supports worship: does it fit the season? Will it support the lectionary? Is it also accessible to my choir or congregation? Where do I find good resources for music? How can I plan music in advance to get a choir well-prepared and yet be flexible when the clergy change plans at the last minute? These and other questions will be addressed. This workshop will be interactive. Please bring planning resources and music that works for you to share with others. If you have specific needs about liturgical planning, please e-mail the workshop leader, John Marsh in advance. Let's address real questions you have for your church situation. (John Marsh serves as Director of Music and Worship at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Norcross, Georgia. He is former chair of the Church Music Commission of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas.)
September 26 - Singing! Clergy, cantors and the RCL, at St. Mark's Church in Raleigh

For more information, or to register, please download the brochure, or e-mail or call the School of Ministry at 336-273-5770.

Contemporary Music: Getting Started: Beginning a contemporary service? It can be overwhelming. This workshop, presented by David Platts, Director of Music Ministries for Grace Lutheran Church in Rock Hill, SC will discuss how to begin, forming and organizing a group, where to find music, and use of technology.
