What is Education for Ministry (EfM)? EfM was created in 1975 by the Rev. Dr. Charles Winters, and is a four year course of study which strives to help every baptized person to fulfill their baptismal vows. EfM provides a theological education program which familiarizes individuals with the foundation of the Christian faith and teaches them how to interpret and express that faith in daily life. As the emphasis on lay ministry has grown, the EfM program has played a crucial role in developing theologically informed, knowledgeable lay leaders.
