 October 4-6, 2007 Mentor Training

Once again, mentors from several surrounding states convened recently from October 4 - 6 at the St. Francis Springs Prayer Center in Stoneville, NC from October 4 through 6 for Education for Ministry (EfM) Mentor training. North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia and Virginia were well represented.  The group taking Basic / In-Service with Betty White are pictured, as is the group who took Spirituality Formation with Elsa Bakkum.  See the listing of those who attended below.

EfM is a program of theological education-at-a-distance of the School of Theology of the University of the South. Students sign up one year at a time for this four-year program. It covers the basics of a theological education in the Old and New Testaments, church history, liturgy, and theology. Students meet regularly, usually once a week, in seminars under the guidance of trained mentors. The program grants a certificate at the completion of the four years and 18 Continuing Education Units for each year's work. More detailed information about the curriculum is available through the University of the South's website.

As a reminder, all active Mentors must receive training every 12 to 18 months in order to maintain certification and to support one's ministry as a mentor. The 2008 schedule for the next mentor training in our diocese is set:  dates are April 24-26, and Sept. 25-27, 2008.  As before, we will be at the same location in Stoneville. Contact
Shelley Kappauf to register via e-mail, or call her at 336-273-5770.

Conversations about a Theology of Partnership

Companion links, as our diocese has with Costa Rica and Botswana, is just one expression of partnership, but it's an important one, and we drew from our partners, as well as from folk in our diocese, in producing our first DVD program, a four-part series: Conversations about a Theology of Partnership.    more....

Conversations about the Kingdom of God

How do we understand Jesus' many comments about the Kingdom of God?  We have variously interpreted Jesus' teachings as talking about the end of time or the transformation of the world, the "in-breaking" of the Kingdom. Here in this four-part series, released in August 2008, Bishop "Chip" Marble, Canon Michael Battle and EfM participants reflect on their understandings.    more....
