DVDs for Parish Study
The School of Ministry has begun production of a series of brief—12-15 minutes—DVDs for use in adult Christian formation programs in our congregations.
Our first release is Conversations about a theology of partnership; the four programs focus upon our theological understanding of global relationships, often expressed through mission trips and companion relationships.
Our second concerns perceptions of the Kingdom of God. During the year we anticipate a series on environmental stewardship; another on our heritage as the Episcopal Church in North Carolina from colonial times; and one on what it means to be “a missionary diocese.”
Also scheduled are conversations about the Sermon on the Mount and reflections on the Gospel of Matthew.
The DVDs include conversations among people from throughout the diocese as well as others who join us in ministry. Their insights on film are designed to stimulate discussion in our congregations.
The DVDs, along with facilitation guides, are distributed to all congregations. A general comment on facilitation is available here.
Supported by a grant from the Jessie Ball duPont Fund, the initiative will continue for three years, from 2007 to 2010.
Kingdom of God
This DVD is suitable for a variety of adult study groups. It certainly works as Bible study, its discussion of the “in-breaking” theme makes it of potential interest to outreach committees, and Michael Battle’s session on “practices” might be applied to a program on spirituality.
Each congregation in the Diocese of North Carolina has received a notebook containing this and other DVDs, a facilitators’ guide, and an evaluation form. The guide and evaluation materials are also available here. Contact us if you have questions.
Theology of Partnership
This DVD is suitable for general reflection on mission and ministry and for those preparing to go on mission trips, whether domestic or international, and its session on the Millennium Development Goals relates to the Church’s MDG commitments.
